The campaign began on September 17 in the Valladolid town of Cubillas de Santa Marta and has ended in Dueñas, in the province of Palencia. The grape has entered the wineries very healthy, with a very balanced acidity and degree.
Despite the rains at the beginning of the harvest, the acidity did not drop and the Ph levels are low, which is predicted for rosés with a lot of life and long aging for the reds. Previous work in the field, such as clusters thinning, has provided good conditions to keep the fruit healthy and anticipate a good harvest.
Águeda del Val, technical director of CRDO Cigales, tells us that "the polyphenolic load has been very good, although in the production of some rosés very little maceration is carried out to obtain the pale rosés that the market currently requires".
In the case of the production of the reds that are always left for the last days of harvest, "the grapes have been picked with a good tannic and polyphenolic load that augurs good young red wines and some very good reds for aging", he adds. del Val.
During this season, we have had 30 wineries, 299 winegrowers, 1,853 hectares registered.
