Even though a significant part of the harvest remains to be harvested, especially the Airén variety, the majority in the region, the truth is that, according to the wine spokesman, Juan Fuente, the market circumstances invite optimism, given that the harvest at European level is expected to be 17% lower than last year's crop, with significant reductions in production in the main producing countries compared to last season, such as France (30% lower), Italy (9% lower) and Spain (15% lower), which means that the global harvest will be lower than the average world consumption volume for the first time in history.
In addition to all this, there is a progressive increase in consumption worldwide as a result of the improvement in the indicators of the Covid-19 pandemic, the increase in tourism and the activity of the Horeca channel; improvements that are expected to continue during this final phase of the year and with even better expectations for next year, 2022.
The market has to improve
All of this is leading to an improvement in market conditions for all the operators in the chain and, therefore, everything points to a balanced campaign which, if it continues in this way, will guarantee fair profitability for the Castilian-La Mancha wine growers, especially those who are members of the region's agri-food cooperatives who are carrying out their campaign in a calm manner and with the security offered by having a whole year to be able to defend their production in the different value markets.
The Wine Sector has called for prudence when operating in order to maintain the desired balance in the market, pointing out that the cooperatives have an important opportunity to offer their wide range of wine and must products, to fight to consolidate our traditional markets and conquer new ones around the world, placing value on our productions and the excellent quality of our products.
