"SPECIALIST IN SPANISH WINES", NEW TRAINING COURSE LAUNCHED BY ICEX AND OIVE

23-06-2021

ICEX incorporates OIVE in the Wines of Spain international training plan. Students will obtain the title of Specialist in Wines of Spain.

ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones and the Organización Interprofesional del Vino de España (OIVE) have signed a specific agreement that envisages the implementation of a training programme aimed at international professionals, preferably linked to the HORECA channel.

This agreement reaffirms the important role that training plays in the internationalisation of Spanish wines.

Within the framework of the agreement, foreign professionals are selected from among the markets considered strategic for the international positioning of Spanish wine: China, the United States, Canada, Japan, Russia, Germany, Switzerland and Poland.

Once they have completed the training, which will last six weeks, the students will obtain the title of Specialist in Spanish Wines, which will consolidate their knowledge of Spain's oenological heritage and increase their affinity with our wines, providing them with a truthful and structured argument so that they can pass it on to their own teams or clients.

The agreement includes four online training courses, which will be taught entirely in English, and will provide a general overview of the main wine regions in Spain, a tour of the main grape varieties and a sample of the different types of wines we have. The training will be completed with wine pairing options with products from the Spanish larder.

Four editions in 2021

The training programme, the result of this agreement, has a budget of almost 52,000 euros and has been divided into four editions, which will take place over the course of 2021.

The first edition, which is already underway, has focused on Asia and has 30 professionals from China and Japan, from prestigious establishments such as the New Otani Hotel or the Hilton Hotel in Tokyo, as well as the Hilton Shenzhen Futian in Canton, the Grand Hyatt in Hefei, the Waldorf Astoria in Chengdu, the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Shanghai or the Beijing Jinghuayuan Restaurant in Beijing.

This training plan is part of the framework agreement that both organisations signed in January with the aim of promoting awareness of Spanish wines in international markets, helping to improve their image among professionals and consumers around the world, and promoting the internationalisation of the Spanish wine sector.
