EXPORTS SAVE THE SPANISH WINE SECTOR ONCE AGAIN

26-05-2021

In the very difficult year 2020, for wine, for the economy in general and for our lives, the internationalisation of our sector, the behaviour of international markets, has once again become a way to reduce risks and losses.

While wine sales in the domestic market fell by 17.3%, as the rise in domestic consumption did not compensate for the heavy losses in the on-trade, Spanish wine exports fell by only 5.9%. With different variations depending on the country, among which many recorded significant increases. And in a year that was already expected to see a reduction in foreign sales, following a short harvest (that of 2019), which normally affects above all the availability of bulk wines. And the loss in value was even smaller, barely 3.6%, as we stopped selling more litres than we invoiced and the average price of our wines rose... as is also usually the case in years with a smaller harvest.
